"FOUR SQUARE"

BEHIND GOVERNMENT

HARBOUR BOARD'S SUPPORT

The Auckland Harbour Board, at a special meeting held in committee this morning, decided to contribute another £50,000 to the Liberty Loan, making the board's contribution £75,000. "We are four-square behind the Government in the raising of the Liberty Loan," said the chairman, Mr. Hendry Luke, after the meeting. "The members are unanimous that everything possible must be done in this direction. At a meeting only a fortnight ago we decided to place £25,000 in this loan, and at a special meeting this morning we increased the total to £75,000. "The people must not be found wavering at this juncture," he continued. "All must realise that it is absolutely essential that the Government should have the money if the war is to be won. Contributions should be on a voluntary basis. Nobody wants to see compulsion resorted to in the raising of the necessary finance for the war effort, and I feel confident that if all public bodies with funds in hand, and all others who have money available, contribute to the maximum of their ability the loan will close fully subscribed."
