NEW REGULATION GAZETTED
Rec. 9.30 a.m. CANBERRA, this day. Members of the United States forces in Australia arrested or defor °? ence s against Commonwealth or State may in future be tried by their own miltiary court and shall cease to be subject to the jurisdiction of the criminal courts of Australia. This was announced in the House of Representatives by Mr. Curtm, who said that a regulation to amend the Allies Forces Act to permit this to be done had been gazetted. The position thus would be that when any member of the united States forces was arrested notification would be givon to the officer in command of the United i States units at the nearest place to the man's arrest and if required he would be handed over to that authority. to be dealt with according to Lnited States law and custom.
