SHORT HAIR

HEALTHY IX WARTIME

The Ministry of Health has refused to confirm that they are backing the campaign to get the women of Britain to adopt the short-hair style launched under the name "The Liberty Cut." The London Evening News had stated that the Ministry was sponsoring the style because "it is really important that women should keep the hair shorter." The official view is apparently that women war workers and women in the services would be more ready to adopt the new hair style for glamour reasons than for health reasons. The truth is that, under wartime conditions, short hair is healthier than long hair. That is the answer I now give to the women who were asking the question: "Why this sudden campaign for short hair?" says a writer in the Daily Mail.

I give it because I believe the women of this country prefer truth to glamour to-day.
