GRADING AWARDS

BUTTER AND CHEESE

RODNEY COMPANY'S FEAT

The Weddel Cup competition has been won by the Rodney Dairy Company (Mr. P. S. Halligan, manager) for the highest average grading points for export butter manufactured during the period October 1 to Anril 30. The company gained 94.611 points. The Hikurangi Dairy Company was awarded second place and the Franklin Dairy Company third.

The Hardley Cup competition for the highest average grading points for cheese manufactured during the same period, was won by the Cambridge Dairy Company, Hautapu, with 93.158 points. The manager is Mr. T. Barr. The Bruntwood Dairy Company was in second place, and the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company (Matangi) was third.

A feature of the Weddel Cup competition is that this is the seventh successive year that it has been won by the Rodney Dairy Company. This reflects credit on Mr. Halligan who, since joining the company about 1928, has shown considerable keenness in raising the average grading of the factory's output. From a comparatively low grading Mr. Halligan effected an improvement each year until, in 1936. his factory won first position, which position "it has retained ever since.
