TO THE LAST MAN
CALLING OF JURYMEN SUPREME COURT INCIDENT The unusual procedure occurred to-day of a juryman in the Supreme Court, who had been challenged by the Crown in a case and stood aside being again called up and included in the panel for the case. This was a consequence of the jury panel for the week being exhausted, when eleven jurymen had been selected to hear this particular case, after six of those called had been challenged by the defendant and two by the Crown. The names of the two men challenged by the Crown were, by consent of Mr. G. S. R. Meredith who appeared for the Crown, put back in the ballot box. and .one was drawn to fill up the jury. The incident happened after two other juries had been selected from the week's panel, and the case was the tinal jury case of the week. Earlier in the session judicial attention had been called to the fact that care had been taken by the registrar to make a minimum call on citizens for jury service at this time, and counsel had been asked to be as discreet with challenges as was consistent with justice.
