WATERSIDERS' APPEALS
(0.C.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. When appeals were made before the Manpower Committee by the Waterfront Control Commission for the exemption from military service of 10 waterside workers, whose ages ranged from 24 to 29, and who had from three to seven years' experience in the work, Captain C. C. Vanden-Bergh, who appeared in support of the appeals, said there were not sufficient men to carry on the ordinary work, and 300 more were needed. There were some 900 men working daily on the waterfront and these were not sufficient, he added. They were working 24 hours a day.
The appeals were adjourned until August 31.
