FIREMEN AT COURT
The City fire brigade had an action in the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon, but it was not a legal action. Just before 4 p.m. one of the Court officers was approaching a large electric switchboard near the judge's room in the lower court when he was startled by a resounding crack and a flash of flame from the switchboard. A flame went up from the switch towards a wooden manhole leading to the floor Joists beneath the judge s library, and, deeming that water from an adjacent stirrup pump was not the right treatment for a switchboard fire, the Court officer promptly called the fire brigade. The brigade's response was immediate and the fire was settled before damage had been done to the building. Penu-» ing switchboard repairs, however, a legal action before judge and jury proceeded to-day in the rather chili and gloomy lower Court without benefit of lighting and heating comforts.
