'EXCELLENT PIG FOOD'
GLUT OF CAULIFLOWERS POSITION IX CHRISTCHURCII (0.C.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Though complaints have been made lately at the high price of vegetables, glut conditions prevail as far as cauliflowers are concerned at the.Christchurch auction markets. On Thursday last more cauliflowers were forward than could be sold under the hammer. One firm advised the Christchurch City Council to send a truck for some excellent pig feed. The truck was loaded to capacity with cauliflowers of excellent quality, the auctioneer being compelled to clear them out because he wanted the space for fresh produce. The broker said that he was unable to give the cauliflowers away to orphanages or homes as they apparently had other supplies. Any shortage of supplies at the present time was not the cause of high prices to the public. There were plenty of vegetables available and, in practically all cases, they were fetching low prices on the market. Cabbages and celery were also particularly plentiful, celery being sold at prices as low as 1/ for 18 bunches.
