WORKERS ON TRAMS
CONCESSION SOUGHT TRANSFERABLE TICKET A request that the Auckland Transport Board consider the institution of a worker's weekly transferable ticket was made by a deputation from the Auckland Labour Representation Committee which waited upon the board. The deputation was headed by Mr. P. Richardson, who said that a hardship was imposed upon certain workers who were working six days a week and had to transfer from one route to another in going to their places of employment. In some cases they travelled two sections and then transferred to another tram for a further section. The cost of this journey would be sd, whereas only three sections had been travelled over. The committee asked that workers be allowed to transfer in such cases at a cost of a penny for the additional section instead of twopence and that other section rides be treated on this basis, the concession to be restricted to certain hours in . the morning and afternoon. Messrs. C. J. Matthews and W. C. Pilgrim also spoke in support of the, proposal. The board deferred consideration of the matter until its next meeting in order to receive a report from tbe ; engineer aad manages.
