Ridden by Temperton, she was allowed to run along at her own pace, ar.d she took her fences m ner stride. Bronze Emerald (Fergus) and Hackenschmidt (Hearn) went with her, and they led the way, keeping practically together throughout. Another ■Northern candidate. Clansman (Skiffing- ? ■* I .'} olne ? , in at the bottom of the straight and led them over the sod wall, double and stone wall. Apart from getting in close to the stone wall, Clansman ga\e a perfect exhibition. The hurdles were erected on the course proper, and the first to school over them were Kanui Te Pai (Temperton), Renascor (Brady) and Flylite (Fergus). A'.L jumped well and there was not much between them at the finish. Timed over four fences they took 1.23 3-5. lolibri (Temperton) was sent over the same hurdles, but was going easily and gave a clean exhibition. Etruscan (Temperton) and Gay Movie (Hearn) also jumped the four fences. Etruscan came to _ grief at the first fence, Gay Movie going on alone to complete his task in 1-26 4-5. Etruscan was later remounted and jumped the four hurdles at an easy pace.
All galloping took place on the No. 1 grass track, on which the poles were out five feet. The going was holding, nevertheless some smart trials were recorded. The best half-mile was that of Bronzo and Grandora, which ran the distance in 50 l-ss, both horses handling the going in good style. Clinch was also sent half a mile, which he left behind in 51 2-ss. I.ord Oefoe and Penny Whistle clocking 51 l-.is, this time T>eing equalled by Kadina, which finished well clear of Maioro. The best gallop recorded during the morning was done by Cherry's Ticket, which completed six furlongs in 1.17 2-o the first three in 38s, and hit ou~. weli. Five Furlongs.—Belle Renarde and Softly, 1.5, the former in front. Six Furlongs.—British Mint, 1.21 1-5, assisted by Gold Age over the last five; Aero King, 1.21 3-5; Sir Cameron, 1.24 1-s;' Beverley and King Dazzle, 1.25 2-5; Snow White, 1.19 2-5. Seven Furlongs.—Enjoyment beat Master Appellant, 1.36 4-5; Gold Land, Gael and Bright, Idea, 1.30 2-5. Once Hound. —British Talent, 1.57, assisted by Wee Pay over the last six in 1.22 2-5; Noble Fox, 2.0 3-5, last six in 1.21 3-5; Tooley Street. 1.50, last half 55 2-ss; Great Night, 1.50; Winsome Lu and Foxlore, 2.0 2-5, last six 1.24.
