GROWING OF VEGETABLES

PUKEKOHE, Monday. In response to the Government's appeal for an increase in the production of vegetables, growers at Pukekohe have offered to plant in the coming season an additional 1071 acres, an increase of 63.3 per cent on last year's acreage. The main expansions in acreages are potatoes. 529; onions, 98; cabbages, 100. The estimated yield totals 9095 tons of vegetables. A committee representing the growers discussed certain difficulties in connection with the scheme at a private conference with the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Barclay.
