WEEK-END ACCIDENTS

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY CAR

Apart from numerous minor accidents such as football casualties, the number of serious accidents this week-end was not as great as in past weeks. One pedestrian died as the result of injuries suffered when he was struck by a motor car. A man was injured when the car in which he was travelling collided with a power pole at Mount Roskill. Two baby girls were admitted to hospital suffering from scalds. A ship's fireman was struck by a motor car when he was alighting from a tramcar in Great North Road at Point Chevalier at 7 o'clock on Saturday evening. He died last night. He was:— Edwin James Peters, married, aged 32, of 3, Parkdale Road, Mount Albert. Mr. Peters, who was suffering from concussion when admitted to the Auckland Hospital, did not recover. When their car collided with a power pole in Hillsboro' Road, Mount Roskill, at three o'clock yesterday morning, two men were injured. Mr. William Schultz, aged 31, single, commercial traveller, of Lower Symonds Street, was admitted to the Auckland Hospital suffering from serious head injuries and concussion. His condition to-day was fairly serious. The other man was not admitted to hospital. The car was wrecked. Two baby girls were admitted to the Auckland Hospital during the week-end both suffering from scalds. One is Jeanette Yvonne Knipe, aged 13 months, daughter of Mrs. D. G. Knipe, of 34, James Avenue. Mount RosKill. She was burned on the chest when she pulled a jug of hot water on herself. Her condition to-day was satisfactory. The other was Jacqueline Naumai Smith, aged 2, daughter of Mrs. Lilian Smith, of 32, Rotomahana Terrace, Remuera. She fell against a billy of hot water. Her condition to-day was fair.
