SOCCER CONTESTS

The feature of the main attraction, between North Shore and Eastern Suburbs, was the form shown by the Shore vanguard. Ably led by Richards, the line combined in splendid fashion and swung the ball about in fine style, whilst some excellent shooting was seen by the inside men. Richards registered the first and fifth goals, Nettleton getting the third and fourth, whilst Dacre, who played a good game at centre-half, netted the second point. Espie converted a centre nicely to get Suburbs' first goal, whilst Ray Welch scored the second with a good drive. Collinge, Suburbs' inside left, has a fine turn of speed, and is a deadly shot, but he is inclined to roam a little. Cowie, the cricket and Soccer representative, turned out at left back for Suburbs and played a good game, although the nippy Shore attack was too fast for him in the closing stages.

HOPE-EDE IN FOHM. —The curtain-raiser between Metro-College and C.R.O. provided an exciting game, the former side winning by the odd goal in five. For the winners Hope-Ede was in excellent form at centre forward, distributing the ball with fint judgment and leading his line in great style. He was successful ln scorinr .'vo goals. Speed netting Metro's other point. Hmnam played well on the left wing, and Brass w s responsible for some good dashes on the riyao. McMurchy was the pick of the halves. Masters, Ludgate and Roberts were prominent for C.R.0., with Ludgate and Masters each finding the net.

COMRADES TOO GOOD. —Comrades accounted for the Navy side at Victoria Park by seven goals to nil. While the early stages of the game were closely contested. Navy only being one goal behind at the interval. Comrades took complete charge of the game in the concluding stages, rattling on six more goals in quick time. Of the Comrades side. Fleet, Evans and Walters were always in the van of the Comrades attack, and received good support from Pincham and Matthews in the backs. The pick of the Navy side were Rutherford and Bl2cklcck in the backs (the latter being outstanding for solid defensive work), and Shoebridge and Hall in the forward line.

TANKS IN ACTION.—Next Saturday the Tank Battalion will be seen in action for the first time this season, when it will meet another Service XI. in the main game at Blandford Park. Included in the Tank XI. are Auckland and provincial representatives, whilst there is also a Canadian and a Motherwell (Scotland) player. If arrangements already in hand are completed, an Auckland representative sido will defend the Drummond Cup against the Sailors on the King's Birthday.

OTHER MATCHES.—Mount Albert B had Its first victory, defeating Ponsonby 5—3, at Fowlds Park. In a friendly game at the Domain Mount Albert A 4 (Ekman 2. Wilkinson 2), beat Air Force 1 (Patterson). In London, in the final of the War Cup Association football competition Sunderland and Wolverhampton drew, two goals each. The attendance was 30,000.
