HIGH HONOUR

GOLD STAR FOR ADMIRAL HART

Rec. 11 a.m. WASHINGTON, May 22

In the presence of Colonel Frank Knox, Secretary to the Navy, and Admiral King, Commander-in-Chief of the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets, President Roosevelt to-day personally decorated Admiral Hart with the Gold Star in lieu of a second Distin-

guished Service Medal for his meritorious conduct of the Allied naval forces in the South-west Pacific in January and February. President Roosevelt said that Admiral Hart had disposed and handled the Asiatic Fleet in a manner which left nothing to be desired. His conduct of operations of the Allied naval forces was characterised by unfailing judgment and sound decision, coupled with marked moral courage in the face of discouraging surroundings and complex associations.
