Varnish applied from time to time to the soles of shoes will give them a longer lease of life.
To remove iodine stains, soak the stained material in ammonia. Rub gently, and wash in the usual way.
When a number of onions have been peeled or chopped without gloves being us£d, the hands should be well rubbed with a piece of crushed or bruised celery or parsley until the smell is removed, and then rinsed in cold water.
In the event of anyone getting a fish bone stuck in his throat, it can be removed by using a strong solution of bicarbonate of soda and water as a gargle. This will give almost instant relief, and the solution may be swallowed without fear of injurious results.
