AIDS AND ABETS
SHIP'S FIREMAN'S OFFENCE
A charge, brought under the Shipping Safety Emergency Regulations, of aiding and abetting another man in the offence of entering on board an overseas ship without a permit, was admitted by Douglas Morris in the Police Court to-day. Sub-Inspector Macnamara said the offence was committed in Wellington on May 3 at 4.8 a.m. Sergeant Callahan found a, taxi driver on board an overseas ship on which Morris was employed as a fireman. Morris explained to the police that he took the taxi dr.'ver on board to get him the money to pay the fare. Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M.: Where was the guard and how did the taxi driver get on the gangway without a pass? 'The man on duty was absent from his post," said Sub-Inspector Macnamara. Morris was fined £1 and costs.
