FLOWERS BY POST

Women who live in the country, and have plenty of flowers in their gardens, often like to send a present of freshly-cut flowers to a friend in a large town, or to an invalid in a hospital or nursing home. To be sure that flowers arrive in good condition, never send them directly they are picked. Always put them in water for several hours first. Pick in the early morning or the cool of the evening. Don't pick during or immediately after heavy rain. Choose a box that will just hold them and pack as closely as possible. If possible, secure the stems to the bottom of the box by means of string. Line the box with tissue paper and put another sheet on top of the flowers. They should arrive in perfect condition, but tell your friends to plunge the stems into very hot water if they do arrive looking limp, and they will quickly revive.
