FORMER N.Z. OFFICER

WITH CANADIAN AIR FORCE

Once described by a London newspaper as "The Kitchener of the New Zealand Division," Colonel H. G. Reid. C.M.0., C.8.E., D.5.0., has been appointed commandant with the rank of wing-commander of No. 2 "M" Depot of the Royal Canadian Air Force at Brandon, Manitoba. The holder of 10 decorations, he is 61 years of age.

Colonel Reid, who trained at the Royal Military College of Canada, served in the South African War and joined the New Zealand military forces in 1913 after a period in Australia. He gave distinguished service in Egypt, Gallipoli and France as a staff-ofneer, and after the war went to Russia with the British Military Mission. He was with the 18th Indian Division in Iraq in 1920-21.

From 1922 to 1924, Colonel Reid was colonel in charge of administiation with the Royal Air Force in Palestine and later was with the Army of Occupation in the Rhineland. Upon retiring from the War Office, London, he became transport manager for the Hudson Bav Company in Canada. He joined the R.C.A.F. in 1940.
