TIMBER SUPPLIES

KAURI COMPANY'S PLANS NEW MILL AT PUMTKUKU (0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day. As the Kauri Timber Company's Auckland waterfront lease expires shortly, it is not intended to reerect the mill on the old site, but it is proposed to erect a sawmill at Punuruku bush to cut the company's remaining timber in the Whangaruru district, stated a letter received the Whangarei Harbour Board.

By having a mill situated near the bush considerably more timber than was estimated will be taken from the bush, because smaller sized logs, too costly to scow or raft to Auckland, will be useable. Approximately 4.500,000 superficial feet of seasoned timber will be shipped to Auckland.

The Board's engineer is to report on the strengthening and enlargement of the Whangaruru wharf to permit of the shipping of sawn timber.
