PRISONERS SENTENCED
Herbert Heka, a Maori, aged 24 years (Mr. North), who had been found guilty on three charges of thefts from dwellings, was sentenced by Mr. Justice Callan in the Supreme Court to-day to imprisonment for two years with hard labour, and. in view of previous convictions, was declared an habitual criminal.
Owen Byrne, aged 46 years (Mr. Aekins), who had been found guilty of theft of a watch from the person of a man in an hotel lavatory, was sentenced to two years' hard labour. _ _ German Holtz, a surfaceman (Mr. Noble), who had been found guilty of arson by setting fire to a Maori whare was admitted to probation for two years, conditions being that lie should refrain from the use of strong drink in that time, and should pay £5 costs by instalments.
