LAW PROFESSOR
EX-AUCKLANDER RETURNS
PRAISES BRITISH SPIRIT,
Following a four-months' desultory voyage in a Swedish tramp motor vessel from England, via South America, Professor A. G. Davis, originally an Auckland University College student, but more recently having held an appointment at the University of Wales, has returned to occupy the Chair of Law at Auckland University College. Professor Davis' experiences well illustrate the current difficulties of voyaging under present war conditions. Having obtained the necessary permission to travel from the Ministry of War Transport, he booked for a passenger liner and was allocated a berth on a Swedish tramp whose engines badly needed an overhaul.
During frequent stops at sea while the engineers toiled with the engines, the passengers engaged in shark fishing.
The professor speaks in glowing terms of the high morale of the British people, and of the splendid spirit and better understanding and friendship which war conditions have engendered among all sections of the community.
