LIGHTS CUT OFF

0.C.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday.

. The lights of 39 houses in the Christchurch metropolitan area have been cut off and 13 prosecutions are pending as a result of breaches of the regulations in the blackout on April 29. These penalties are substantially fewer than those incurred after the previous trial, on February 18, when the lighting was disconnected in 72 cases and 18 prosecutions were authorised. After the blackout on February 18 lighting was cut off for a week. For breaches of the last blackout the period of disconnection has been increased to a fortnight. The number of minor breaches, in which the E.P.S. authorities issued warnings, has shown a marked decrease, from 2400 on February 18 to 580 in the last blackout.
