DRILLING FOR OIL

TARANAKI BORE NEARLY 2000 FEET The new well being drilled by the New Zealand Petroleum Company at New Plymouth has been named Devon No. 1. "The well has reached a depth of 1970 feet in mudstone," the company reports. "The well is situated in the Taranaki province about half a mile from a locality where an oil seepage exists and some small production of oil has been obtained." The last report issued on April 29 showed a depth of 621 ft in the first ten days.
