CITY OF BENARES.
Eight Days In Lifeboat In Atlantic. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Reed. 2 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 2fi. Two Sunderland flying boats, of which one was an Australian, found 46 survivors, including children, who had been drifting in a boat from the City of Benares, the evacuee ship sunk by a U-boat, on Tuesday of last week. A warship later picked up the survivors, who were 000 miles from the land. The Australian aircraft had just been relieved from convoy duty when it found the lifeboat. The Australian captain flew to a convoy and asked the captain of the Rdyal Air Force Sunderland which had taken over from him to ensure that the survivors were rescued. A British official wireless message says the survivors spent eight days in a lifeboat before they were sighted and picked up. The six children among those saved leave the nuinl>er of child victims of the torpedoing at 79.
The survivors paid a tribute to tlie heroism of the children during the anxious days of exposure at sea.
