EARLY SPRING TOMATOES. CARROTS IN OVER-SUPPLY. At the City Markets to-day there was . a fair demand for apples, and a good inquiry for Nelis Peais. Hothouse tomatoes .--olil at flood rate*, and good quality tree tomatoes met with a fair demand. ' New Zealand grapefruit sold .slowly, quan- ■ lilies being very much lighter. | Caiiot.- were a glut on the market and |it wa.s impossible, to quit supplies. Cab- ' hage and cauliflower were plentiful and cabbage advanced in price, while caulillowcr prices were a little lower. Celerywas in heavy supply, good prices being realised for choice; quality. Pumpkins I were coining to hand in good quantities j i.nd realising very high prices. Kuinara supplies were fair and prices high. Heavier quantities of new potatoes met with a firm market, choice lines "realising high rates. Hothouse beans and also green peas were in fair supply, and brought good values. Hothouse cucumbers were short and prices for those offering were very high. Asparagus came to hand in very heavy supplies and prices were lower than last week. Onion quantities were good. selling at recent rates. Rhubarb were plentiful and prices were a little lower. Marmalade oranges: 6/ to 7/ per case: ■anal 1 4' to 5/. Grapefruit: New Zealand, 7/ to 9' per case Lemons: 8/ to 17/6 three-quarter bushel case according to grade and count. VEGETABLES. Prices were:—Asparagus, lilb bundles 5d to Sd, lib bundles lOd to 1/6; beet, 1/6 to 2/ per dozen; broad beans. 6d to 8d per lb; celery, cooking, 6d to 9d, dessert 1/ to 4/ per bundle; carrots, 1/6 to 3 8 bag, or 6d to 9d per dozen: cauliflowers. 4/ to 7 6 per *ick. on benches, 2/ to 4/ per dozen: cabbages, 2,6 to 6/ per sack, on benches, 1/6 to 3/ per dozen; cucumbers, hothouse. 13/ to 15/ per dozen: beans, hothouse, 1/ to 2/3 per lb; green peas. 8d to 1/3 lb; kumaras (Island), 4d to 4V2d. (Tauranga). 7/ to 9/ per bag; leeks, 3d to 5d per bundle; lettuce, 2'6 to 8/6 per case; onions, choice firm,. 6/ to 8/, medium, 4/ to 5/6 per bag; potatoes (Southern), 5/ to 6/ per cwt, (Ohakune), 3/5 to 4/6 per bag, (new). 2d to 5d per lb; pumpkins, choice Triamble. 18/ to 28/, medium. 8/ to 12- per sack; parsnips, 2/6 to 5/ bag, or 1/ to 1/3 per dozen; radish. 9d to 1/3 per dozen: rhubarb, 2/6 to 5/ per dozen: spinach, 1/ to 1/6 per dozen; spring onions, 8d to 1/6 per bundle; swedes, 1/6 to 3/ per bag; turnips, 1/ to 1/6 per dozen. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was fair and the demand was about as usual. The prices paid remain the same. Selling rates were as follow: —Cockerels, heavy breeds, prime, 5/ to 6/ each; not prime, 3/6 to 4/6; light breeds, prime, 4/ to 5/; not prime, 2/ to 3/; fat hens, heavy breeds,, 4/ to 6/; light breeds, 3/ to 4/: drakes, young, prime, 4/6 to 5/: ducks, young, 3/ to 4/: day-old chicks, 8.0.. 2d each; Leghorn, unsaleable. Eggs, Farmers' Batter, Cat Flowers. Eggs: Hen, standard grade, 1/6','j per dozen; duck, standard grade, I/6V2 per dozen. Farmers' Butter. —1/ to 1/3 per lb. Cut Flowers. —A large quantity of flowers came to hand to-day and the prices and demand were generally good. Sweet peas, anemones, ranunculi, stock and ixias of good quality were keenly sought ' and» realised high prices. A large quantity of tulips were sold, best quality blooms selling fairly well.
