PAEROA RACES.

OHINEMURI CLUB.

THE FIRST DAY. PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW Good fields are carded for the opening of the spring meeting of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club at Paeroa to-morrow, and there should be some good racing. Betting will be on the win and place system. The Maiden Handicap has attracted three over the safety limit at the six furlong post, and there is every indication that it will be run as one race, though provision has been made to divide it. Radiant Vaals was a fair two-year-old last season, being placed at Matamata and Te Rapa. He is one of the team of W. Townsend, who had his horses well forward at Avondale." Radiant Boy was placed on the flat and over hurdles at Rotorua in July. Durvach, a filly by Foxbridge, only started once last season when she ran third in the Novice Stakes, five furlongs and a half, at Rotorua in July. She would only need to have gone on the right way to be troublesome. Acute has been galloping well at Te Rapa while Aberdovey has shown plenty of

pace in his races. Lady Pay and Flying Jay have been working well, and the public may go far: Durvach, Abenlovey and Radiaat Vaals. Both Small Boy and Midland were winners at Avondale, and they are now at the head of the Kopuarahi Hurdles. Racewhip was second to Midland on the first day and fourth the next. Little Ruse has shown good form in this department as well as on the flat, while of the others, Cappy and' Lbojmbination may be the best. Perhaps Midland, Little Ruse and Small Boy may have support. Young Paddon has won well up to a mile and a quarter, so that the seven furlongs and 60 yards attached to the Ngatea Handicap, for which he and The Dozer are equal topweights, is well within his compass. The Dozer was a very useful performer last season, arid wonover a mile at Pukekohe in May, which was his last effort. Brazen Bold annexed the King George Handicap, seven furlongs, at the Great Northern meeting, and though he did not get into the money at Avondale, his efforts there encourage the belief that he is about back to his best again. Merry "Vaals was a very smart sprinter last season, and it does not take much to bring her to the top of her form. Pocket Venus finished second in the Islington Handicap, one mile, at the Auckland Easter meeting, which is her best performance recently. She is also in Townsend's stable. Foxmond was fourth to Erndale, Blonde Princess and Valimeen in the open sprint at Avondale earlier in the month, and should be benefited by that race. The favourites may be: Young Paddon, Brazen Bold and Foxmond. The Pipiroa Handicap. They are not a very, good lot in tire Pipiroa Handicap. Wildbre, who: is at the head, was third to Young Paddon and Flying Acre over a mile and a quarter and 180 yards at Rotorua, while Joan Peel was placed in mile events at the recent Pakuranga amd Avondale fixtures. Silver Stick has not been in the money since Foxsen beat him by half a head over seven furlongs at Te Aroha last February, and Valdene, who ran third to Milanion and Hunting Bee over a mile at tkft recent Avondale meeting, appeals much more. Hunting Bee is also engaged, and won over a mile and 160 yards at Rotorua: Raepata at his best would be he has not raced this Season. LiordiWaitangi was a winner at Rotorua, and. GoldSpot was fourth in the Woolston Handicap, seven furlongs, to Boloyna, Hasten and Greenbank at the recent Grand National fixture at Riccarton. Valdene, Joan Peel and Hunting Bee may have most friends.

The dozen paid up for in the Poland Cup should provide an interesting race. Mazir and Cheval de Volee have no recent form, but Clinch, after his success in the Avondale Cup, will not lack support. He is in great nick. Besiege won over a mile and a quarter at his last start, while Mintlaw should be improved with recent racing. The same remarks apply to- Valamito, while of the others Raceline and Coronation may appeal most. Clinch, Besiege" and Mintlaw may be favoured. Small Boy is engaged in the hurdles as well as the Maramarua Steeplechase,.,for which he is topweight. He won "the Hawke's Bay Steeplechase in July, and also showed up well In otner cross-country events. Allegretto won at Matamata, while Blue Steel, one of -L.; Knapp's team at Awapnni, was second ;• in the Beaufort Steeplechase at the Grand National meetr ing last month, and has won over the big' fences at Wanganui and Marton. Floodlight, Gar Vaals, Te Ronga and Dark Rose hare all shown winning ability. Small Boy, Bine; Steel and Allegretto may he the favourites.

Llangollen has the steadier of 9.10 in the Flying -Handicap, open sprint, and seeing- she ran second at Rotorua with 10.7 to Huni-a-Song in her last-start in July she is by no means oat of it. Proud Fox, after his third in the Admiralty Handicap, six furlongs, at the Pftkuranga meeting, has good, prospects. Corato. Pirate King and Lornacre are good sprinters when at their best; but Corato and Lornacre have not raced, since the autumn, and Pirate King since the GreatjNorthern meeting. Te at; Te: Awamntu and was placed while Gaymiss finished'a good foittr*h in the Flying Avondale earlier in the month,.; VaKmeen was third in the President's Handicap> at ; thei same meeting, while Maxam showed a lot of pace in her two_ races' this season,, leading intovthe wtraisfot on-isack occasion. Olympus, Dinki Di, Sure ~Play and Miss Te Koura seem the pick of the remainder. In the absence of Gaymiss, Valimeen, Maxam and Llangollen niay be in request. The final even* is the Kerepeehi Hack Handicap, and Vernlam, Haekenschmidt and Paymaster may do best. A special train will leave Auckland for Paeroa at:; 7.5. a.m. to-morrow, and Newmarket'at'7:l2 a.m. There will be no special train from. Auckland on Monday.
