LIVE STOCK MARKET.

MUTTON EASIER.

COMPETITION FOR BEEF. LARGER ENTRY OF FIGS. A firm general tone, with a slight easing in mutton, was shown at the West field fat stock sales yesterday. Veal sold well at a slight increase, the entry being short of butchers' requirements. Prices were fully maintained in the beef market under steady competition. Some good individual cows sold to £13, but the best offer for steers was £17 7/6, over £1 less than that made at the previous sale. Sheep eased in price as a result of heavier entries. Top levels for wethers and ewes were 42/6 and 32/', compared with 45/6 and 38/ previously. Much larger numbers of shorn sheep were sold. Lambs also were a larger section, but the price here wan little less than before, the best offer being one of 43/6. Larger numbers of pigs were offered than at last week's sale, but steady competition was responsible for firm rates. Baconers sold to £4 14/, a slight rise on the previous best, and porkers were traded to £3 15/, lees than before. The market for stores weakened. Veal ens made good prices under a keen demand, runners being loss keenly sought. The best offer for venlers, which were a short entry, was £8 5/, which was higher than before. Runners sold to £9 17/6, more than 30/ lower than before.
