MARTHA CO.'S REPORT. During the period ended June 29 the principal work carried out underground in the Martha gold mine at Waihi was as follows: — No. 14 Level.—Edward lode. Trout block: The excess ore from this block assayed £1 5/11 per ton. No. 12 Level. —Royal lode. Reptile block: Assay value of the ore drawn from here averaged 13/2 per ton. The estimated quantity has now been recovered from this block and further ore will be regarded as an excess quantity. No. 10 Level.—Empire lode: The drive east of Bren north-east deviation crosscut was advanced 33ft. making a total of 87 l -2ft. A full face of payable ore is exposed with the south wall seen. At 80ft a rise was put up 17ft connecting to floor of junction No. 6 level. No. 9 (65ft) Up Level.—Royal lode: The drive west from the end of Dragon block was continued to 85ft. The average assay value from 43ft to 54ft is £1 8,7 per ton and from 54ft to 82ft 12/1 per ton. No. 8 Level.—Edward lode, west branch: The drive east from Roach west crosscut was continued to 67* 2 ft. The width of quartz varied from 12in to 18in, the value being low. The drive will connect with former workings in a few more feet. No. 8 (90ft) Up Level.—Royal lode: The drive east from Cobra winze has continued to 4l 1 / 2 ft. The assay value at 41ft is £3 1/5 per ton over five feet of ore with no visible walls. The west drive was advanced to 97ft in good quality ore, with no walls visible. No. 7 Level.—Edward lode, west branch. Alpha block: Drawing has been discontinued from this block owing to the large amount of country rock present with the ore. No. 5 Level.—Martha lode, north branch: The crosscut to the south at 359 ft west is stopped. It is apparent that the vein upon which Moresby west rise was put up does not come up to the ; level in this vicinity. I lode: At 134 ft in Lovett i south crosscut. Driving was commenced west and extended to 37ft. The vein is about 12in wide of ' good grade over this width. No. 4 Level. —K lode: West of Ritchie's southCl ° s scut. This drive has been continued to iuju. Although the assay value is good, the vein is small, ranging from Sin to 14in in width. The ??5L dr Jy e w as advanced 38ft. making a total of 1 Yj}- Here also the assay value is good, but the I width is small. H branch: Vein at 75ft in Lovett south-east crosscut. A etoping block, to be known I as Cameron, is in course of preparation. It ' extends from 18ft east to 73ft west of Lovett i south-east crosscut. The calculated value is £1 5/8 per ton over a stoping width of 3ft. No 3 Level. —H branch vein, H block: Ore breaking was stopped at 70ft above the level owing to the vein pinching and the wall breaking. The block is estimated to contain 1812 tons of broken ore. which will be drawn on as required. * a J*?P' 240 ft in No. 2 shaft south-east crosscut, driving east will be commenced on a vein corresponding with that upon which the H block stope is situated.
