RUGBY SEASON ENDS ON SATURDAY WEEK.
JUBILEE TROPHY. CHALLENGE.
The Rugby season- will close on Saturday week. This decision was made by the management committee last night, when arrangements for senior matches were considered. In the event <ff the last day being available a .Tubileie Trophy" match will be played, challenges tTo be invited in fche meantime. The status of R. A. Armltage, which was raised after he had played for North Auckland representatives against Auckland, was the subject of a letter from the University Club. The letter was taken in committee, but It was reported that the committee's- ruling was that Armltage has been, and is still, a membei of the club. A complaint was received from the Grafton Club against the fact that during the season its senior team had been required to play 11 matches on outside grounds, Including eight at the Showgrounds, and expressing the opinion that greater consideration might have been shown. The chairman said it was unfortunate that Grafton had had so many matches away from Eden Park, but sometimes this could not be avoided. Since the beginning of September only one ground had been available at Eden Park. He added that the Showgrounds was really as central as Eden Park for city teams. The chairman and secretary were deputed to reply to the Graftop complaint. The congratulations of the union were extended to the Junior boys' board, through its delegate, Mr. R. P. Bllllngham, on the highly successful season Just concluded. Winners in the various boys' grades were as follows: —Senior, Ponsonby; intermediate, Marist; Junior. Marist. colts, Marist. The chairman, Mr. A. A. Baker, said it was particularly pleasing that' even the teams in the lowest positions had consistently fulfilled all engagements. It was agreed that a? letter should be sent to the Pamell Club, commending it upon the fine spirit of its junior boys' team, which never once defaulted, although beaten in every match. An offer from the Referees' Association to present a trophy to be competed for among the Junior grades under the control of Itie junior management board, on the same lines as the Bert Palmer Memorial Cup for junior boys' teams, was announced in a report of a meeting held on Tuesday, between club coaches, secretaries, junior management committees and referee. It was stated that the offer had been accepted and the competition would be inaugurated in the 1941 season It was also announced that a Rugby coaches and officials' association is to be formed, a subcommittee having been appointed to make the necessary arrangements. It was reported by the junior management board that the Whittome Shield, for the fourth grade championship, had been presented to the Eden team, while the fifth grade trophy had been presented to the coach of .the successful Marist team, and congratulations extended' to hi« on its wonderful record. The following ground officials were appointed for next Saturday:—Eden Park, Messrs. R. 1.. Farrell, L. Meek; Showgrounds, Messrs. A. A. Lucas, T. McConnell; Sturges Park, Mr. H. T. Revell; Avondale, Messrs. J. J. Coulter. C. J. Moore; Onehunga, Mr. A. J. Wilson; Devonport, Ueutenant K. Mills.
