GREAT HOSPITALITY.
VICTORIA LEAGUE WORK. EFFORT IN LONDON. "The heart of the work of the Victoria League lies in its hospitality," said Mrs. Leo Myers, addressing members of. the Victoria League this morning. She was introduced by Mr. L. S. Rickerby. "The Victoria League," said Mrs. Myers, "was the pioneer of the great Imperial ideal linking the colonies to the Motherland, and bonds existing between the Victoria League in London and in this country are stronger than ever." Mi'|. Myers went on to speak of the work which the league was doing in It included sewing, knitting, the making of bandages and comforts for the troops, and the running of canteens and welcome clubs. An important and often very difficult pert of the league's work was the seeking out of relatives of men from the Dominions who were living in England. Often the barest details I were given, but the league had been successful in tracing many of these "longlost" relatives, and it meant a great deal to the men to be able to get in touch with someone of their own kith and kin. The distribution of books and magazines to the forces was another branch of the league's work, and apropos of this, Mrs. Myers said that she had been amazed by the large number of reading libraries in Auckland. There were more in this city, she believed, than in any other in which she had lived.' "Every second woman one passes in the street has a book under her arm!" she said.
Mrs. Myers said that she wished to express her admiration of the work the league in Auckland was doing at this time. "I was told that it was a very robust organisation, and it has certainly added to its strength through war emergencies." 0
