COLLECTING METAL.
FOR DOMINION USE ONLY.
Collected in order to aid New Zealand's war effort, about four tons of non-ferrous metal* are lying at the city destructor at Freeman's Bay. The collection, which is part of » Dominion-wide schenw*. is under the direction of the National Coun.il for tlie Reclamation of Waste, with headquarters in Wellington. The local collection has been the result of the activities of Mr. H. P. Lovell. organiser of the waste reclamation division of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council, the chairman of the division being Mr. X- B. Spencer. The metal, which has been collected from more than 80 depot* in city and suburbs, is handled and delivered to tie centre free of charge by Auckland carriers. The Government pay? the market price for the material and the money is credited to patriotic funds. After sorting, the various classes of metals will be distributed in accordance with their use value. Some will go to the railway workshops and pome will be devoted to the growing munition* industries of the country. Xo part will fro overseas. The preseiit collection ha* been the result of a fortnipht".*- activity, though the bodv responsible has been in being for the last three weeks.
