WAR WORK.

LADY GALWAY GUILD. MAYOR'S APPRECIATION. Appreciation of the work being done by members of the Lady Galway Guild was expressed by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, at a meeting of chairmen and secretaries of the guild held at the Town Hall this morning. Sir Ernest said that, as chairman of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council, he congratulated the organisation, and added that his Excellency Viscount Galway wished him to convey his appreciation, also the thanks of Lady Galway. j Sir Ernest said that he liad been astounded at the efforts made, the excellent quality of the articles going for- ' ward, and the manner in which mate- ! rials were being pieced together to make all sorts of garments. They conveyed a sentiment which was much required at'the present time, but intensification of the work was required, and it would be very much appreciated in Great Britain. Sir Ernest said that New Zealand was in a very fortunate position compared with the Old Country, and mentioned that his mother was living in London and had refused to le-.ive. "There Uoed to be a hymn of hate in the last war," added Sir Ernest. "I have newr had any hate in my heart up to the present time, but I hate with all my heart and soul this Hitler gang and its barbarous ways, and it is time we had some hate in the community against a system which stands for the mass murder of innocent little children." Finally, Sir Ernest assured the members of the guild of the appreciation of the work by" Auckland citizens. Mr. L. A. Griffiths, the provincial organiser, said that under the shipping arrangements 150 tons of material had been dispatched, and allocations for further space to meet requirements would be made at an early date.

The meeting was-then continued under the chairmanship of Lady Davis.
