APPEAL FOR SUPPORT.

PLUNKET SOCIETY.

CONTEST FOR BABIES.

An exhibition of photographs of the babiee for whom the Plunket Society cares so well is shortly to be held by the Auckland branch, in order that the public might be given soiv.o idea of the efficiency of the society's work, and will be inspired to offer financial support. The exhibition is taking the form of a competition consisting of eight classes, and the prizewinners will be chosen by public vote, thus giving every baby an equal chance. The classes have been arranged as follows:—Throe months and under; over three motiliij: and under six months; between six a-ul 12 months; between 12 months and two years; between two and four; between" four and six; twins under two year»; twijis over two and under five years. Xo surnames will be shown on the photographs, but only the Christian nain>s of the chil dren and their age and number. Visitors to the exhibition will be abie to obtain voting coupons at Id each and thus express their preference. Entries are already behig received and the society impresses nron mothers the urgency of having photographs taken and sent in at once. The closing date for entries will be October 10 and from October 24 to November 1 they will be displayed in Milne and Choyce's children's department. During 'this time the voting will be held. The activities of the Plunket Society, always essentially patriotic, have taken on an even' deeper significance as a result of the war. It is more important than over that the generations of the future should grow up stron" and healthy. Throughout its lifetime, the eociety has had to depend upon the support of the public it seeks to help. Its work is done without charge, and although the gratitude of parents helps to carry it on, the society's fixed income does not allow for the maintenance and expanding of operations and there is always an urgent need for funds. It is hoped that the exhibition will inspire the public to continue the assistance they have always given en willingly.
