"CHEERIO."
POPULAR MESSAGES. SERVICE FOR SOLDIERS. Say it with a "Cheerio!" There is nothing that the boys serving overseas will appreciate more than a message of cheer published in the "Star" Eighty o'Clock sporte edition on Saturday. That the scheme has also met with enthusiastic approval of Aucklanders who have sons, brothers and fathers serving with the forces is revealed in the bumper "Cheerio" pages published since the scheme was launched. Last Saturday there was another full page packed with the affection and humour that will appeal to the boys "over there." Each man for whom there was a message will receive a postpaid copy of the paper by the first available mail. Since the plan was inaugurated letters of congratulation and thanks have been pouring into the "Star" from subscribers who have realised the advantage to be gained by sending a bright and comprehensive summary of the week's sporting news to the troops, as well as the personal message that means so much. It is only when a man is away from his homeland that all the familiar names and events assume a new and eentimental significance. Readers are again reminded that the closing date for messages to be inserted in next Saturday's sports edition is 9 p.m. on Thursday. The fee charged for a. message of 1.5 words, excluding the name and military address of the recipient, is 2/0, while longer messages may be published at a slight extra cost. Special "Cheerio" forms are available at the "Star" Office.
