NATIONAL COUNCIL.
OPEN MARKET DISCUSSED. QUESTION OF SELLERS. The subject of open markets came up again before the Auckland branch of the National Council of Women at its monthly meeting last evening, when the possibility of obtaining tliein in Auckland was discussed. It was pointed out by speakers that if the City Council were to be asked to establish such a market, definite guarantees as to the supply of goods for sale would have to be obtained. "We have proved that people want to buy," said one «s|veaker,' "and now we must prove that people want to sell." It was decided that the National Council should approach the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, the Farmers' Union and the Women's Institutes asking for their co-operation in an investigation into the sources of supply which would be available for an open market. These organisations would also be asked whether they would be willing either to attend a conference of prospective suppliers or send out a questionnaire to obtain the names of suppliers, together with the quantity and type of goods which would be supplied. Included among reports presented on general matters was one on adult education, presented by Miss Griflin, who outlined various angles concerning women. The meeting wae presided over by the president, Miss G. M. Hemus.
