Mr. ST. Cole wa* a passenger on the Monterey from Australia yesterday. Mr. R. C. Hoiton returned from Australia by the Monterey yesterday. Mr. C. R. Petrie, M.P.. will be a passenger on the Limited express for Welhngton tonight. Mr. H. D. Caro. Mayor of Hamilton, and Mr. W. Waddell, the town clerk, are at the Central Hotel. Sir Ernest Roberts, of Rangoon, Chief Justice of the High Court of Burma, ie vieting New Zealand and is at the Grand Hotel. Captain S. R. Banyard, Dominon secretary of the Church Army, travelled to Wellington by the Limited express last night to attend a meeting of the Church of England Military Affairs Committee. Staff Sergeant-Major F. W. Booth has been promoted lieutenant and quartermaster (temporary) and been appointed assistant quartermaster, Waiouru military camp. Major Cyril Bavin has been appointed liaison officer to the New Zealand Government in connection with the evacuation of British children to the Dominion. For the past 24 years Major Bavin, who is a brother of Sir Thomas Bavin, former Premier of New South Walee, has served on the National Council of the Y.M.C.A. in London.
