TEACHER'S APPEAL.
CHILDREN'S FIREWORKS. MONET TO PATRIOTIC FUND. An appeal hap been made by Mr. H. McCov:».n, headmaster of the Dominion Road School, by means of a circular distributed among his pupils, that the Guy Fawkes celebrations this year should be cancelled and the money which would have been used to buy firework* paid instead to the school's patriotic fund. "I am making a call for a great sacrifice on your part," writes Mr. McCowan, "but I feel confident that you will stand by me and make the sacrifice for the honour of our school, of which lam sure you are so proud. This year, a* you know, our beloved flag, the Union Jack, is in danger. A merciless foe wants to tear it down and trample it in the dust.
"The Empire require* money to replace 'planes lost and to maintain damaged ones. Much money is also required to succour the many thousands who are in need and suffering through the cruelty of an unscrupulous foe. I know that every boy and girl in this school would like to help to win the war. You 'can. Collect your money for the Fifth of November, Guy Fawkes' Day, but this year hand over all of your collection to the school's patriotic fund. "Say this: 1 will not buy and burn firework* while Wave men are fighting in far-away lands that New Zealand may be free.' Will you -vlunteer to do it?"
