LOCAL BODIES.
OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor. Mr. C. B. Petrle, M.P., presiding. Centennial Best Boom.—The chairman of the Centennial rest room committee reported that arrangements had been made to augment the funds to be obtained towards the cost of 'building a ladies' rest room In Mason Avenue. The sum still required is approximately £400, which in the meantime is being guaranteed by the council. It is proposed to hold football matches at Sturges Park, where the two codes will co-operate. Playing Area.—The Mayor reported to the council that an area of land comprising 11',J acres which is Invested in the Technical High School will be laid out as playing fields by the Public Works Department. Access to this ground will be made available by way of Mangere Road and Awa Street and will adjoin Sturges Park. . Bate Collection.—The Mayor Intimated that since the rate demands had been Issued there had been a substantial Increase in the sum received compared with a similar period last- year.. Concrete Footpaths.—Having completed the concreting in front of the Passenger Transport Company's building the works committee reported that work is proceeding with the concreting of the path on the northern side of Mangere Road to Wiumsley Road.
