DRIVERS' PICNIC DAY.
DECISION BY THE COURT.
Judgment was given by the Arbitration Court to-day in the appeal by the employers against a decision 'by Mr. J. A. Gdlniour, S.M., as chairman of the disputes committee, that the drivers' picnic day should be observed on the same day as the waterside workers' picnic day—not a Saturday. The appeal was made on the ground that for years the drivers' picnic day had been observed by mutual agreement on Easter Saturday, and that it should continue to be qfbserved on a Saturday with a view to involving a minimum of trade and public inconvenience. Mr. Gilmour'e decision held that under the award, in a section agreed on by the parties, the clause relating to picnic day had been altered to provide for the picnic day falling on a day which was not a half-holiday.
The Arbitration Court agreed with the magistrate's decision, and dismissed the appeal. _.^
