■ ■ UNITED ORPHANAGES. AUCKLAND FUND GROWS. _A second anonymous donation of £500 and other substantial gums, in aid of the united churches' appeal for £10,000 for Auckland orphanages, have been received by the organising committee. The main appeal to the public will be made throughout the Auckland district on Friday, when street collections will be held. In making a drive for funds the committee i 6 endeavouring to raise £10 for the support of each of the 1000 children in the 12 orphan homes controlled by the religious denominations, and plan* also to make all necessary preparations for the use of the orphanages as receiving homes for children from Britain before their distribution to private homes throughout Xew Zealand.
