UNDER CANVAS.
TEMPORARY CAMPS. SIX IN AUCKLAND. TERRITORIAL TRAINING. Auckland district Territorials, who were to have been mobilised at Waiouru camp on October 1, will now go under canvas at six temporary camps being established at various points in the province. The mobilisation date has not been changed. The various camps, with the units they will accommodate, are as follow:— Rotorua Racecourse. —Ist Field Regiment, New Zealand Artillery. i Cambridge Racecourse. —Ist Battalion, Waikato Regiment. Te Aroha Racecourse. —Ist Battalion, Hauraki Regiment. Whangarei Racecourse. —Ist Battalion, Xorth Auckland Regiment. Epsom Showgrounds. —Auckland Company, New Zealand Scottish Regiment. Avondale Racecourse.—lst Field Company, New Zealand Engineers. When the mobilisation date for the Territorial regiments va« announced several months ago, there was reason to believe that Waiouru camp would be retdy to accommodate the men from the military districts of the Xorth Island. However, there have been hitches in the building programme, including the delay caused by the recent fire which destroyed one of the mess huts.
At short notice, therefore, it was found necessary to make alternative arrangement* for the mobilisation of the men and their accommodation under canvas until the main camp is ready to receive them. This date is indefinite, but is not likely to l>e less than a month.
Officers and non-commissioned officers of the regiments that will be going under canvas next month have already i>een trained, and advance parties will be leaving shortly to complete arrangements at the various temporary camps.
