BRITISH ATTACK.

French Naval Squadron Off Dakar. GERMAN RADIO REPORT: (Reed. 1 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 22. New York intercepted a German wireless broadcast which carried a Vichy dispatch asserting that British warships attacked a French naval squadron off Dakar, French West Africa, and damaged one French vessel. Details are obscure. , However, the announcer indicated that the French cruisers returned to Dakar because of the British warships' superior gunpow.er. A message from Melbourne says the Naval Board advises that there is no official confirmation of the New York message reporting the Vichy assertion of British and French naval action off Dakar.
