FALL FROM WINDOW.
HOSPITAL PATIENT'S DEATH. Falling from a window of Ward 1 at the Auckland Hospital shortly after five o'clock yesterday morning, a patient, Richard Morkam Bowden, labourer and pensioner,.aged 83, received injuries from which he died almost immediately. Deceased was a married man and lived at 1 Halesowen Avenue, Sandringham. i At an inquest opened this morning by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, evidence was given that deceased was admitted •to the institution suffering from chronic bronchitis. At five o'clock yesterday morning Nurse Miller attended him ■to take his temperature, but he refused to allow her to take it. Nurse Miller left him and a few minutes later heard the sound of breaking glass and a patient calling out. She ran into the room and saw deceased about to fall through the window. S,he grabbed him by an ankle, but was unable to prevent him falling, and he received fatal head injuries. A son-in-law gave evidence that he saw deceased on Friday last, when he was in good spirits and gave no indication that he would take his life. I The inquest was adjourned.
