THE METROPOLE.
Old-time and modern dances alternated their tempo at the Metropole on Saturday evening, the programme appealing in turns to all tastes.
The members of the band displayed their adaptability for interpretation, and fox trots and the polonaise, valeta an other time-honoured dances were enjoyed with zest by the crowded throng.
A popular feature of the musical programme was "The Waltz Metropole," with words and music by Mr. Lew Jones, and the dancers showed their appreciation in a vigorous encore. An amusing "School-Days" sketch was prescnted with Mr. Les Williams as the schoolmaster, Miss Joan Hobdell as the ginger, and the orchestra co-operating in merry mood. Miss Hobdell, winner of the recent Metropole search-for-talent contest, contributed bright theme songs.
