PROMOTED TEAM'S SUCCESS. TAKAPUNA IN LEAD WITH MARIST The defeat of Suburbs on Saturday by the improved Training College XV. (which In its three previous games had conquered Grafton. Norm Shore and Technical Old Boys), has left » promoted club, Takapuna, in the lead with Marist Old Boys, the 1939 winner of the Gallaher Shield.
Affer the first round Takapuna and "Varsity were promoted from the second division, in which their championship points were 18 and 15 respectively. Takapuna with eight wins and two draws having been unbeaten. The promotion rule provided that no club could carry into the first division more points than were standing to the credit of the leader As Marist was top with 16 Takapuna had to drop two points on "going up."
