Richard Greene To Join Forces
Richard greene, British filnt actor, left the United States on a liner bound for England to enlist in some branch of his country's service, it was disclosed in Hollywood by Miss Virginia Field, screen actress, and' his fiancee, states our Hollywood correspondent. ' With much secrecy, Greene closed his business affairs in Hollywood, obtained a leave of absence from 20th CenturyFox and departed from New York whence he subsequently sailed. Miss Field . • i — —

Two or three weeks previously Greene went to Vancouver, British Columbia, and sought to enlist in the Seaforih Highlanders in Vancouver. He wao informed .that the unit was not recruiting. Later an army officer accused Greene of "using the Canadian army for publicity purposes" and resented what he termed an implication that men were not to be accepted for enlistment. . ) ■ Greene denied the accusation* and declared a wrong interpretation had been - placed on his efforts to join the Highlander* as an officer., For this reason, Mis* Field eaid, Greene left quietly for England "because he did not want the public to think it was a publicity stunt." -«>
