EXCELLENT RESPONSE. TWELVE IN POLAND CUP. NINETEEN REMAIN IN FLYING. Taken all round, the acceptances for the opening of the Ghinemuri Jockey Club's spring meeting at Paeroa on Saturday next are quite good, the Poland Cup attracting a dozen acceptors and the Flying Handicap 19. These are the two principal events on the programme. Last year the Cup re suited in an exciting finish, Hot Box winning by a neck from Phikoiwt, with King Rey close up in third position. None of the trio is engaged ©n Saturday.

There is a different story to tell about the Flving Handicap, for Maxam, who Avon the race twelve months ago in the colours of Mrs. C. McGregor, is again engaged and is weighted at 7.9, as against 7-5, including 51 b over-weight. Te Monowai, second last year, is not engaged, but Orate, third, is in the field with 8.3, a droip of 31b.

Twenty-nine horses appear in the Maiden Handicap, and it will be necessary for three of them to drop out to avoid a division, as the safety number for the course from the six furlongs post is 26.
