DEATH IN ENGLAND.
PORMEI HARBOUR ENGINEERThe death h&8 occurred in England of Mr- W ( R. Hamer, formerly engineer to the Auckland Harbour Board, according to advice received in Auckland. Mr. Hanjer was aged about 70 years. Educatod at Rugby, Mr. Hamer was employed fey the Hull Docks and Railway Company, the London, and Tilbury Lighterage Company and pther authorities before his appointment to Auckland in 19Q3, He was at that time resident engineer to the London and India Docks Company at the Royal Victoria and Albert Dpcks. Mr. Hamer served as engineer to the Auckland Harbour Board until his retirement in 1024, and during tlnit time he prepared a comprehensive scheme for future harbour works. His report was submitted in 19Q4, and his reoommenda- j tions were followed in the remodelling of the port-during the period of development followed. His reinforced concrete wharves have stoorl the test of time. With the completion of Prince's wharf in 1024 Mr. Hamer retired and returned to England.
