RAILWAY REVENUE.
£116,126 GAIN REVEALED. FOUR WEEKLY PERIOD. WELLINGTON, Thursday. A gain of £116,126 in the four weeks ended August 17, compared with the corresponding period last year is shown by the railway working account. A working loss of £41,562 is replaced by a profit of £74,564. The gross revenue for. the period was £788,304, which-was £128,570 more than laet year. . Expenses increased by £12,444 to £713,740. The operating account for the North Island lines shows a revenue of £430,257, an increase of £86,209, and expenses totalling £385,426 or £13,051 more. There was a profit of £44,831, compared with a loss of £28,327 last year. The' receipts of the South Island railways were £255,198, compared with £214,188, an increase of £41,010. Expenses were £251,218, or £3301 more. There was a profit of £3980, compared with a loss of £33,729 last year. The balance of miscellaneous revenue was £25,753, as against £20,894 in 1939. For the 20 weeks from April 1 to August 17 the net result was a profit of £524,496, compared with a profit of £177,382 last year, an increase of £347,114. The .gross revenue . was £4,111,854, an increase of £506,306. The expenditure was £199,193 higher at £3,587,35?.
