MAORIS' SACRIFICES.
DONATION AND LOAN. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. That the Maori race is making- sacrifices for the prosecution of the war effort was further evidenced by a recent donation to the Government by the Tuwha'retoa Trust Board on behalf of the Ngati-Tuwharetoa tribe of £150 as ■a "ift and £500 as an interest-free loan for the duration of the war and six mouths. " The members of the Tuwharetoa" tribe "reside around the", shores of Lake Taupo. The Native Minister, the Hon. F. Langatone, says the board's action recalls the magnificent gesture some half-century ago by the late Te •Heuheu Tukino (Horonuku), paramount chief of the tribe, when he presented to the nation areas of land totalling over 0500 acres, now familiar to all as the Tongariro National Park.—(Press Assn.)
